This week, the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya released a study on how playing video games affects cognitive function and development. The results may not be what you’d expect… Cognitive Science Researcher, Dr. Ileana Berman shares the story:
As it turns out, playing video games is actually good for your brain! At least, that’s what a study released by Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC) claims. Specifically, the UOC research team was able to come to the conclusion that playing video games leads to structural changes in the brain. While some might assume that this is a bad thing, it’s actually quite the opposite! In fact, UOC’s research concluded that playing video games during your childhood can help improve working memory later in life. This study was based on 10 sessions of transcranial magnetic brain stimulation.
