According to a study recently released by Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, a mother’s choice of beverage may affect her child’s cognitive function in a critical way. Dr. Ileana Berman discusses this recently published cognitive science research:

Well, you know what they say:  you are what you eat.  But according to a recently published study, you are what you drink, too.  Actually, as noted specifically in the study, a child is what his/her mother drinks!  Evidently, if a mother consumes sugary drinks during the breastfeeding period, there can be harsh consequences for her child down the line.  The study is drawing a connection between this consumption of sugary drinks and a child’s overall cognitive development.

The study discussed in Dr. Ileana Berman’s Cognitive Science Review for this week can be found in the most recent American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.
